Microsoft Teams does not currently have a built-in 'export' function for chat threads or team discussions. However, if you need to make a copy of existing Teams chats and messages, you can use one of the below methods.

Method One: Copy from Teams to Text Editor

Simply highlight the chats you want to save, press Ctrl + C to copy, then open a text editor such as Notepad or Word and press Ctrl + V to paste.

Method Two: Screenshot

If all the chats you want to save fit on your screen at one time, you can take a screenshot of them. Press Shift + Windows key + S to launch Snip & Sketch. Your screen will go dark and you will see some options at the top of your screen. Make sure the left most option is selected and then drag a rectangle around the area of your screen you'd like to capture. A notification will appear in the lower left and you can click it to annotate or save the image.

Method Three: Pin a Chat

You can select chats with pertinent info or frequently used and pin them. Teams will keep these at the top of your chat list. Hover your cursor over the conversation you want to pin and then click the three dots to the right. From there click Pin and your chat will stay at the top of the list.

You can search within a chat or Team discussion thread by selecting it and pressing Ctrl + F, then enter your search term.

Method Four: Mark Chat or Teams Threads as Saved

You can mark chats or Teams threads messages as saved, then view saved messages in the future. To mark a message as saved, hover your cursor over the message, then click the three dots next to the emojis and click Save this message.

Method Five: Share Message via Outlook

To share a message via email, hover your cursor over the message, then click the three dots next to the emojis and click Share to Outlook. You can then enter a recipient email address and send. Please note, this will only share the particular message you selected.
