This guide will help you add/re-add the DUO Mobile App as a means to authenticate to the various CSU Systems where DUO is required for login.


Registering your Device with DUO Mobile

  1. On your phone, or any other Wi-Fi enabled mobile device, open your App Store and search for the "DUO Mobile" app. The app you're looking for is shown below.

  2. Once downloaded, open the DUO Mobile app, it will likely ask you to add your first account. We'll take a pause here with the app for the meantime.

  3. On your personal/work computer, open a web browser and go to netid.colostate.edu Once there, click the "Log in" button in the top right of the page and sign into the following page with your NetID username (not your email address) and password. Once you've successfully signed in, you will need to complete a DUO prompt.

  4. Once signed in, you will be directed to the "Show My Information" page. Go to the sidebar on the right side of the page and click on the "lines" icon. This will pop out the sidebar, click on the "Two-Factor Authentication (Duo)" button.


  5. The following page will show if you have any registered devices with DUO, feel free to modify/delete devices if they are no longer relevant. For this guide we'll add a device, so click on the "Register Device" button off to the side.
  6. In the following menu you'll have to add info such as a nickname for the device to help you recognize it, your phone number, and type of authentication. For "Type" select "Duo Mobile App" then for "Platform" select the the option that closely describes your mobile device.
    • Note: As of October 31st, 2024 the phone call service for DUO will be deprecated and unavailable after this date. You must authenticate DUO either via a push notification or bypass code through the app.

7. Once filled out press "Save" a summary of the provided number and a QR code should generate. 


8. Return to the DUO app on your device and click the "Add (+)" button in the top right, the select "Use QR code." Your camera on your device will now turn on, hold your camera up to the QR code and try to line up the boxes on the phone screen with the borders of the QR code. When successful the app will ask you to name the account, feel free to keep it as "Colorado State University" and hit done.


9.You should now be back at the home screen of the app with the newly added account. For future DUO prompts you can either utilize push notifications or enter a bypass code to complete the prompt.
